Active and passive voice

Passive voice atau kalimat pasif  merupakan lawan kata atau kebalikan dari Active sentence atau kalimat aktif. Untuk merubah dari kalimat aktif ke pasif tidak sembarangan kata kerja dapat digunakan. Hanya kata kerja transitif saja,

Passive voice in Simple Present

Pattern: Be (am, is, are) + V3(Past Participle)

Contoh:

-          Mother eat a banana. (Active)

A banana is eaten by mother. (Passive)

-          They always feed the cats

The cats are always fed by them

Passive voice in Present Continuous

Pattern: Be (am, is, are) + being + V3

Contoh:

-          We are cutting the trees now.

The trees are being cut by us now.

-          Father is reading a newspaper at the moment.

A newspaper is being read by father at the moment.

Passive Voice in Past tense

Pattern: Be (was/were) + V3

Contoh:

-          He played football yesterday.

Football was played by him yesterday.

-          She cooked two plates of rice last night.

Two plates of rice were cooked by her last night.

 

4.

Passive voice in Present Perfect

Pattern: has/have + been + V3

Contoh:

-          I have written a letter

A letter has been written by me.

-          Nissa Sabyan has already sung Ya Maulana and Deen Assalam

Ya Maulana and Deen Assalam have already been sung by Nissa Sabyan.

 

 


Modal Auxiliaries : Can, will, must

Pattern: Can/will/must + be + V3

Contoh:

-          Puja Syarma can sing Ya Nabi Salam Alaika very well.

Ya Nabi Salam Alaika can be sung Puja Syarma very well.

-          Unce and Aunt will visit Grandma

Grandma will be visited by Uncle and Aunt.

-          The students must obey the school rules.

The school rules must be obeyed by the students.


Irregular Verb

  Become – Became – Become = Menjadi

  Begin – Began – Begun = Mulai

  Bite – Bit – Bitten = Menggigit

  Blow – Blew – Blown = Meniup

  Build – Built – Built = Membangun

  Burn – Burnt – Burnt = Membakar

  Buy – Bought – Bought = Membeli

  Catch – Caught – Caught = Menangkap

  Come – Came – Come = Datang

  Cost – Cost – Cost = Berharga

  Creep – Crept – Crept = Merayap

  Cut – Cut – Cut = Memotong

  Dig – Dug – Dug = Menggali

  Draw – Drew – Drawn = Menggambar

  Dream – Dreamt – Dreamt = Bermimpi

  Drink – Drank – Drunk = Minum

  Feed – Fed – Fed = Memberi makan

  Feel – Felt – Felt = Merasakan

  Fight – Fought – Fought = Berkelahi

  Fall – Fell – Fallen = Jatuh

  Fly – Flew – Flown = Terbang

  Forget – Forgot – Forgotten = Lupa

  Freeze – Froze – Frozen = Membeku

  Give – Gave – Given = Memberikan

  Tell – Told – Told = Menceritakan

  Take – Took – Taken = Mengambil

  Sting – Stung – Stung = Menyengat

  Sweep – Swept – Swept = Menyapu

  Swim – Swam – Swum = Berenang

  Spend – Spent – Spent = Menghabiskan

  Smell – Smelt – Smelt = Berbau

  Tear – Tore – Torn = Merobek

 

Level: beginner

Transitive verbs have both active and passive forms:

active passive
The hunter killed the lion.>The lion was killed by the hunter.
Someone has cleaned the windows.>The windows have been cleaned.

Passive forms are made up of the verb be with a past participle:

 bepast participle 
Englishisspokenall over the world.
The windowshave beencleaned. 
Lunchwas beingserved. 
The workwill befinishedsoon.
Theymight have beeninvitedto the party.

If we want to show the person or thing doing the action, we use by:

She was attacked by a dangerous dog.
The money was stolen by her husband.


1. Mommy cleans the room every day.

2. My uncle fixs the toy.

3. Joe takes a Mandarin course.

4. Hendra kicks the ball

5. Andri drings the juice

6. Father drive the car

7. He buys the house

8. They build the mosque
